Cumming, Georgia
On August 10, 2022, William Russell ("Bill") Patterson began his next journey with the Lord. He died at home with his loving wife holding him close. He was a man of few words, but very strong convictions, and he loved his family very deeply. He was born in Bluefield, Virginia on March 9, 1932 - technically just too late to be considered a part of the Greatest Generation. However, there is no doubt that he was a true bearer of that torch. Following his high school graduation, he served his country with great honor as a Marine in Korea where he was awarded the Purple Heart among other honors. After his return from active service and following a brief "visit" at Virginia Tech, on September 14, 1955, he married the love of his life, Helen, and they settled in the Atlanta area. They spent over 30 years together in Decatur, and they spent the last blessed 30 years together in Cumming. They spent almost 67 years together - the two rocks that taught three future generations the true meaning of God, love, family, country, honor, courage, and humility.
It is hardworking, no nonsense, family men like Bill Patterson who have truly made America great. Bill Patterson always answered the call, he always took care of business, and because of this wonderful man, the world is a much better place. Bill was predeceased by his parents Charles and Beulah Patterson and his sister Anne Vencill. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, his daughter Teresa Coulston (Andy), his son Russell (Debbie), his grandchildren Melissa Perez (Hugo), John Poulos (Natalie), Kelly Dailey (Tim), Rusty, Tony Coulston (Heather), and Chelena Coulston and his great grandchildren, Sofia and Marco Perez, Layton, Savannah and Jameson Dailey, and Molly Coulston. He is also survived by his loving niece Sharon Richards (Joe) and their children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals or Samaritan's Purse. God Bless.
