Wes was born June 29, 1934 in Atlanta, GA along with his identical twin brother, Les, to the late Willard Leslie Marbut, Sr. and Gladys Estelle Mauldin Marbut. He went on to be a wholesale electronics representative for Graybar Electric Company with a southwest Georgia territory. He also tried his hand at business ownership when he bought one of his dealer's retail stores in Reynolds, GA.

Wes and Bobbie eventually returned to the Atlanta area to be closer to family, where he ultimately retired from Home Depot after helping open two new locations. His favorite pastime was playing golf with his friends, family and business associates, especially at Green Island Country Club in Columbus. He also enjoyed fishing with his father on Two Mile Creek at Lake Lanier and family vacations at St. George Island, FL.
