Wanda Roylene Statham

Wanda Dillon Statham, 79, of Cumming, Georgia died peaceably on June 18, 2010. Born in Sweetwater, Texas in 1930, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Pearl Emfinger Dillon. Her older brothers Gene Dillon and Ernest Gifford Dillon also predeceased her. Wanda was an active member of Mountain View church of Christ in Cumming and much beloved by its members. She was also an active volunteer for the Towns County Republican Party for over ten years while living in retirement in Hiawassee, Georgia. She attended nursing school for two years at the University of Texas in the late 1940 s and graduated from Coker College in South Carolina after her children were grown. She worked as a homemaker, librarian and teacher for many years, specializing in special needs children. Before and after retirement, she volunteered her time for church, libraries as well as other local causes where she felt she could make a quiet difference. An avid Bible scholar and disciple, she loved music and needlecrafts, and family members liken her to the Biblical character Dorcas who worked with her hands and took care, quietly, of everyone in her life. She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, George Edward Statham, Jr. of Cumming, Georgia; daughter, Jan (Roy) Busse of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; sons, Ross (Audrey) Statham of Cumming, Georgia and Robert Statham of Fort Mill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Katy Levesque, Beth Goolsby, Meg Williams, Libby Statham, Jim Statham and Cathy Stephenson, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 5:00 pm in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 20 at Shooting Creek Cemetery in Shooting Creek, North Carolina. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 19 from 3:00 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
