Walter Eugene Wolf

–

Cumming, Georgia

Walter E. Wolf of Cumming, GA passed on to heaven at the age of 87 on September 16th, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dean, his four daughters Mary Lisa Riley (Archie), Stephanie A. Wolf, Kathleen Wolf McCormick (Bob), and Wendy Wolf Grimes (Greg). He was the proud Grandfather to Luke (Cassie), Matthew, and Deborah Kay Riley, David (Amanda), Stephanie, and Courtney McCormick, Wyatt and Gordon Grimes and Great Grandfather to Charlotte and Michelle McCormick and Townes and Audra Riley. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Fidelis and Alexia, and his sister MaryJo.

Walt (Sonny) was born on November 22, 1933 to Fidelis and Alexia Wolf in Hayes, KS. He was the big brother to Patricia, MaryJo, Sophie and Chuck. The family moved to Norton, KS where Walt attended Norton High School and helped take the Norton Blue Jays all the way to State to win the 1951 Basketball State Championship. He spoke fondly of his years in Norton and shared many stories of his childhood with his daughters. He earned an athletic scholarship to Kansas State where he played for two years before moving on the University of Denver to play basketball as well as earn a degree in business management.

He met the love of his life, Mary Dean, on a blind date ordained by God. They married on June 16th, 1956. Married 65 years they are a great example of the Sacrament of Marriage. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. After being stationed in Germany, Walt and Mary Dean returned to the states where Walt began his business career and raised a family of four daughters. An entrepreneur, he worked in sales his entire career eventually starting The Wolf company with his wife and daughter Stephanie. After 35 successful years, Walt retired but continued in consulting with his daughter Stephanie and business partner, Les Hughbanks, to help others realize their entrepreneurial dreams.

A great lover of both drawing and fishing you would find him doing both with a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. Walt never met a stranger. Anyone who was blessed to encounter him experienced, joy, laughter, kindness and a sense of humor matched by no other. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and was a father figure to many of his daughter's friends as well as their spouses. He was a man of faith, had a strong work ethic and a man of integrity in both business and life. He was a straight shooter and taught his daughters to be strong independent women who should fearlessly follow their dreams. He will be missed by many, but his wisdom will live on in us all.

The Catholic Mass celebrating his life will take place on Monday, September 27th at 1pm at St. Brendan the Navigator, 4633 Shiloh Rd, Cumming, GA 30040. The internment with military honors will take place Tuesday, September 28th at 9am at the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Bosco Academy, 4708 Shiloh Road, Cumming, GA 30040.
