Virginia Howell Withers

Sarah Virginia Howell Withers, 96 years old, left her earthly home March 17, 2021 leaving family and friends she cherished. She will be greatly missed.

Virginia was born at home February 20, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia to Rainey D. Howell and Lucy Myrtle Craton Howell. Virginia grew up in Atlanta and later resided in College Park, Georgia for 59 years. In 2018, she moved to Brickmont Assisted Living in Milton, Georgia. The family wishes to thank the staff and friends she made there for their love and special care.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Thomas Alan Withers Jr. and sisters, Bobbie Lou Blackburn and Becky Manor. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ann Withers Dalrymple (Richard), of Cumming and son, Stacy Howell Withers (Pamela) of Newnan, and grandchildren Rachel Dalrymple of Cumming, Natalie Dalrymple Black (Jon) of Cumming, Jonathan Alan Withers of Duluth, Andrew Dalrymple (Samantha) of Roswell, and great grandchildren Alex and Elizabeth Black.

She graduated from Commercial High School, Atlanta Georgia in 1943. In 1947, she went to work as an Executive Secretary in the Southern Territory office at Sears Roebuck and Company on Ponce DeLeon Ave in Atlanta. There she made lasting friendships with so many people.

Virginia loved antique shopping, making jewelry, and lunches with her girlfriends at the Swan Coach House and Mary Macs in Atlanta.

She and Alan loved country music and often visited Hiawassee, Gatlinburg, and Nashville. Every summer since the 1940s they vacationed in Daytona Beach, Florida with family and friends.

She was the perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She'll be remembered as a true southern lady, full of grace and beauty, generous and kind to all, and was a beloved friend to so many. We are grateful and blessed to have had her all these years. We will miss her with all our hearts.

Visitation and funeral held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at McDonald and Son Funeral Home, Cumming Georgia, John A. Fischer officiating. Internment followed at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mableton, Georgia.
