Thomas Slaughter

–

Cumming, Georgia

Thomas "Tommy" Slaughter, 85, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on December 5, 2024. Born in Lanett, Alabama, Tommy graduated from Jamestown High School in Jamestown, North Carolina, and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from High Point College.

Tommy dedicated his career to teaching and coaching, starting at Ridgeview High School in Sandy Springs, where he coached football, basketball, and track. He continued his teaching journey at Sandy Springs Middle School, as well as Ridgeview Middle School before concluding his career at Otwell Middle School in Cumming, Georgia.

During the summers, Tommy managed Hammond Hills community pool, creating cherished memories for families in the area. His greatest joy, however, was watching his children and later his grandchildren participate in sports. Tommy also treasured Thursday nights spent with fellow retired coaches, enjoying football and camaraderie at Roosters Cafe.

A proud history enthusiast and member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Tommy had a deep love for North Carolina Tar Heels basketball, rarely missing a game. In recent years, he found joy in traveling each month with the love of his life, Jeanne.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Treva Slaughter, and his sister, Martha Ward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Slaughter of Cumming, Georgia; son, Alan (Stephanie) Slaughter of Cumming, Georgia; and daughter, Rebecca (Jimmy) Eagen of Cumming, Georgia; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A visitation will be held on January 9, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at McDonald and Son Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
