Thomas "Tom" Bostick

–

Cumming, Georgia

Thomas McCall Bostick (Tom) passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in peace at his home, after a strong courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Welch McNair Bostick and Margaret Alice McCall. He attended Harding High School, Wingate University, and Western Carolina University.

Growing up in Charlotte, while in school, he enjoyed part time and summer jobs with Todd's Florist, Belk Department Stores, and following his Father's footsteps at the Charlotte News. Upon graduation from college, he moved to Camden, South Carolina where he was a teacher, football and basketball coach, volunteer fireman, and thereafter as a Purchasing Agent for the State of South Carolina.

Tom and his family moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1979, where he continued his 26 year career in public service with the State of Georgia in roles including Director of Purchasing, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services, and Executive Director of the Georgia Net Authority. During his career in public service, Tom enjoyed his many close friendships from around the country in NASPO, and was honored to serve as their President. Tom transitioned to the private sector in 2000 to continue to work with state and local governments as well as higher education in roles with Cisco Systems and Verizon Business Solutions, until his retirement.

He is survived by the love of his life, Sara, who he fell for in college and truly cherished celebrating a 50thAnniversary this past June; children, Bradford D Bostick and his wife Kim of Charlotte, Allison B Liu and her husband Patrick of Alpharetta; grandchildren Kerrington, Camden, Nathan, Katherine, and Garrett, who all revered him as "Pops."

In addition, Tom is survived by his brother, Welch McNair Bostick, Jr and wife, Sara Jane of Greenville, South Carolina; sister, Betsy Bostick Grant and husband Michael of Blythewood, South Carolina; aunt, Maryann McCall Reep of Auburn, Alabama; aunt Jimmie McCall of Charlotte, North Carolina; and aunt, Barbara McCall Bennett of Anderson, South Carolina.

Tom shared a love of travel to Hilton Head and the mountains of Western North Carolina with Sara, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities to watch the grandchildren play in their many sporting events and activities. His dry wit, charm, ability to personally connect with others, and thick silver hair will always be remembered, as will his passion around Atlanta Braves baseball.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 PM at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, Georgia.
