Cumming, Georgia
Susan Skrynecki Olson, beloved wife, sister, aunt, honorary aunt, godmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her Cumming, Georgia home on February 10, 2025. Susan was the youngest of five children of the late Robert and Julia Skrynecki and the youngest of twenty-two grandchildren. Born in New York on October 25, 1969, Susan grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where she built a life overflowing with love, laughter, and kindness. While at Lakeside High School, she discovered an interest in dentistry as an intern in the office of Dr. George Slappey. She went on to pursue a thirty-plus-year career as a dental hygienist, the last sixteen years of which were with Siegel and Dolt Comprehensive Dental Care. It was second nature for her to make her patients smile as she cared for their smiles.
In 2001, Susan married the love of her life, Darron Olson. Together they built community wherever their personal and professional lives took them, welcoming family and friends into their home, first in Smyrna, Georgia, then in Wellington, New Zealand, and in recent years at Lake Lanier. Susan brought great joy to others by orchestrating gatherings at home and in the office. She always focused on making others feel welcome and comfortable, and lifting their spirits. She was deeply engaged in the lives of her nephews, nieces, and the many other children she considered family, and she delighted in their accomplishments.
Susan held a strong conviction for volunteerism. Her activities included coaching people with visual impairment in beep baseball, participating in an Orphanage Outreach mission trip to the Dominican Republic, and volunteering at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Second Helpings.
Susan and Darron shared a love of travel and tracked their travels throughout the country and the world. Susan, who became a certified travel planner in recent years, has now joined loved ones at her final destination.
Susan was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Robert Paul Skrynecki. In addition to her husband, Darron, Susan is survived by her sister, Lorraine Jonassen, and her children, Dennis, David and Wendi Jonassen; brother, Mike (Elizabeth) Skrynecki, and his children, Stephen and Bobby Skrynecki; sister, Janine (Michael) Padvorac, and her children, Evan and Alex Padvorac; parents-in-law, Dan and Sandy Olson; brother-in-law, Eric Olson, and his children, Marisa, Rachel and Autumn Olson; sister-in law, Terri (Harry) Helwig, and her children, Huston Helwig, Heather Kennedy, and Henry Helwig; goddaughters, Maegan Patterson and Natalie Murphy; and cherished extended family and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am, February 17, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329. A celebration of Susan’s beautiful life will be held immediately afterwards in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Susan’s memory to Purple Pansies, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer immediate support to individuals and families affected by pancreatic cancer while funding research and clinical trials to conquer it, at www.purplepansies.org.
