Susan was a native of Columbus, Georgia, where she spent several years of her professional life. After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in English, she taught high school in Phenix City, Alabama, and Lumpkin, Georgia, both near Columbus. And after graduating from the University of Alabama Law School, she returned to Columbus to work as an attorney for the law firm of Kelly, Denny, Pease and Allison.

Later, Susan relocated to Atlanta, where she worked for additional law firms, including Fortson and White. She then joined the Social Security Administration in Atlanta as an attorney focusing on Workers’ Comp.

Considered brilliant by all who knew her, Susan had a lifelong love of books. Her reading interests were wide and varied, from spirituality to English common law.

Raised an Episcopalian, she attended services at a variety of Episcopal churches in Georgia and Alabama. Her deep faith carried her through life’s challenges, and she loved Episcopal prayers and hymns.

Susan also enjoyed exploring nature, particularly in North Georgia. And she took a keen interest in Georgia and Alabama history. She also greatly loved New York City as well as New Orleans.

Susan is survived by five siblings — John, Eva, Guy, Bessie and Mary — all in the Cumming-Dawsonville area; two brothers-in-law — John and Ray; her niece Elisa; and two nephews — CJ and James. In addition, she is survived by five great-nephews — Brody, Elias, Landon, Lincoln and Bentley.

There will be a private family service for Susan in Cumming, Georgia, at a later date.
