Steve Nissen

–

Cumming, Georgia

It is with great sadness the family of Steve Nissen, 55, announces his passing on March 19, 2018 in Johns Creek, GA. A beloved family man and friend - Steve passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Johns Creek Presbyterian Church in Johns Creek, GA.

Steve was born on December 24, 1962 in Beeville, TX. Steve's childhood home was Jacksonville, Florida. He attended college at the University of Florida - thus began his love of the Gators and college football.

In 1984, Steve's career as a software engineer with Sangamo Weston (Schlumberger Industries) brought him to Peachtree Corners, Georgia. It was here that this easy-going soul met his mate - a life force one cannot forget - Tina. A true love story began and the two married in 1989. The beginnings of a loving family were formed and Tina and Steve were blessed with two sons - Zachary in 1993 and Austin in 1995.

Steve and his family were charter members of Johns Creek Presbyterian Church.

During his career, Steve also worked at Scientific-Atlanta, Cisco, and Larson & Toubro. Additionally, he enjoyed the spirit of entrepreneurship as he started several small businesses, including a technical recruiting firm and software consulting company.

However, Steve Nissen was so much greater than a biography of dates and places. If you were blessed to know him, then you have known goodness, honesty, and kindness personified. Steve was the true definition of the meaning of a great man. A man without pretention, Steve chose his words carefully. His wisdom and wit will be long-remembered and he could truly make you belly laugh!

Steve enjoyed golfing, and also the relaxation of a day fishing. He loved the challenge of working on all things technical and mechanical. Family and friends remember fondly his smile on a sunny day with the top down in his yellow convertible.

Most of all, Steve Nissen loved time with his family. He cherished watching his boys become men. The privilege of cheering them on in their own passions, whether they involved sports, music, or academics, was never lost on him. In addition to his sons, his grandson James, was the light of his life and brought a bounty of smiles and joy. Steve appreciated the goodness that surrounds us all daily - what most of us call the 'little things.' His legacy to his boys is an exampled man of character and proper priorities in life.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Tina, sons Zachary and Austin, and grandson James (Zachary). He will always be remembered by his brothers - Michael Nissen, Dan (and wife Sonya) Nissen, David (and wife Sonya) Nissen, and Alan (and wife Meredithe) Nissen as well as his many nieces and nephews.
