Sonja Sellers

–

Cumming, Georgia

Sonja Ann Sellers passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Born on July 1, 1943, Sonja lived a life devoted to others and to the pursuits she loved.

Sonja enjoyed a distinguished career in computer programming, traveling the world to teach and mentor young professionals in her field. Outside of her work, she found joy on the tennis court or with a good book in her hands.

To those who knew her, Sonja’s greatest joy was her family—her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were her pride, her purpose, and her greatest blessing.

Her love extended far beyond her family. Sonja had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, valued, and welcome. She never met a stranger, and her warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

If you asked her how she was doing, she would smile and say, “Better since I’m talking to you.” That simple phrase perfectly captured the kindness, joy, and genuine spirit she shared each day.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Gene); grandson Chad (Shanda); her sister LaVeta (Ross); brother Lyle (Judy); sister-in-law Rachel (George); nephews Michael (Linda), Mike (Tracey), Jeremy, Eric, and Dawson; niece Tona and niece Courtney; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Callie, River, and Dakota—all of whom loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Dawson and Meta; and her granddaughter, Brittany.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m.
