Sharon Mudd Van Brocklyn died peacefully on February 13, 2022. Sharon was predeceased by her beloved husband Rodman (Van) Van Brocklyn and is survived by five children: Susan Lyons Giangreco (Alan), Christopher Lyons (Anne), Allison Lyons Saunders (Jeffrey), Stephen Lyons (Kristine), and Todd Van Brocklyn (Aimee). She was also the adoring grandmother to nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Sharon was the first of four girls born to Mary and Arthur Mudd in Buffalo, NY. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Ann Cleary, Patricia Reid, and Bobbie Lindner.
In 1968, as a single mom to four young children, Sharon was a force of nature. She returned to college and received both a bachelor's and master's degree in art education. There, she met the love of her life and in 1973, Sharon and Van married.
Together, Sharon and Van created a home full of love where their children thrived. Sharon was happiest with her family around her and found joy in simple pleasures. She inspired her children to dream about what was possible - whether it was the arts, education, or business, and supported them with all her energy. Sharon was a wonderful role model who lived with gratitude every day. Her philosophy was best summed up when she said, after moving a large sofa with her little ones, "If we had a place to stand, we could move the earth!"
Sharon's family will gather this summer for a private service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring her with a contribution to this organization that helps families in need, especially those who are food insecure, or to any charity of your choice.
