Dahlonega, Georgia
Ronald Allen Smith II passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, curiosity, and quiet strength. As Friedrich Nietzsche wrote, “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how,” and Ron found his “why” in the people and passions that shaped his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Allen Smith and Mary.
Ron is survived by his wife, Ruby Gathright-Smith; his son, Jacob; his sister, Shirley; his brother-in-law, Garth; his brother Carl; and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will cherish his memory.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that sense of discipline and dedication throughout his life. He later spent his career as a programmer in the financial services industry, retiring in 2008 from First Union in Richmond, Virginia. He was known for his intellect, integrity, and lifelong curiosity, always seeking to learn and understand more about the world around him.
His presence, wisdom, and steady love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private service will be held to honor his life. Friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate Ron’s life.
