Ronald Edward Seder

–

Cumming, Georgia

Ronald Edward Seder, age 89, of Cumming, Ga, passed away January 25th, 2022, after a brief illness.

Ron, as he was known to friends and family, was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Arthur Hill High School. After graduating, Ron joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Colorado, where he developed and delivered training on new fighter jet radar technology during the Korean Conflict.

Following Ron's honorable discharge, he joined IBM in 1954 as a customer engineer, repairing IBM machines. He rose through the ranks quickly, accepting new positions wherever he was needed and enjoying an impressively successful career as an IBM executive.

In 1952, during his Air Force service, Ron married Elaine McDonald, who would become the love of his life. Together, they moved around the country to pursue his IBM career, raising their family and, later, enjoying a long retirement.

After retiring in 1986, Ron remained involved in his community. He was active in the Lake Lanier association, working to preserve the water level in Lake Lanier to benefit lake residents and recreation. He also served as a Forsyth County Commissioner, helping to manage the rapid growth of the county, establish Martin Luther King Day and promote construction of the Forsyth County Administration Building in downtown Cumming.

Ron was most proud of his work that resulted in the construction of the Roman Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumming, Georgia, where he was a parishioner for over thirty years. He spearheaded the fundraising drive, worked with the Archdiocese of Atlanta to procure the land for the church and remained deeply involved during construction to help ensure the project's success.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Rosella Seder and his only sister, Mayze Jane Seder Smith. He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Elaine; his children Edward Seder (Loraine), David Seder (Debra) and Kimberly Steury (Robert Reagan); grandchildren Kenneth Seder (Rebecca Bornemann), Jennifer Cundiff (Joel) Jessica Seder, Mackenzie Steury and Matthew Steury; and many nieces and nephews. Ron's family always came first in his life, and he delighted in visits from his children and grandkids.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on February 11, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.
