On February 2, 2022 Bob Doyle, age 79, completed his work on earth and went on to be reunited with loved ones who went before him. Our loss, Heaven's gain.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melanie, son Robert L. Doyle, III, daughter-in-law Stephanie, grandchildren, Samantha, Sophia, Ava and Josephine; sisters Deborah Mason, Lynda Doyle and Mary Doyle. In addition he will be greatly missed by his cousins who were like sisters to him: Diane Emmett, Pamela Schulman and Karen Doyle. Cousins Sue Palma and Jennifer Doyle.
He is preceded in death by son Matthew David Doyle who died in 1985 and parents Bob and Jean Doyle of Lima, Ohio.
Bob was born in Lima, Ohio on December 22, 1942. When he was 18, Bob enlisted in the Army. He spent 5 1/2 years in the service. Most of his army time was spent in school learning electronics which served him well.
After the army Bob worked 2 years at Avco near Cincinnati. In 1972 Bob joined Hewlett-Packard and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Bob started out repairing medical equipment. He loved that field. HP Sent him to St. Louis where he moved up to sales of medical equipment. Melanie said that it was ironic that Bob was not allowed to be in the hospital room when she was delivering each of their sons. In his new position, he was often in the delivery room because he sold the fetal monitors.
Bob was promoted to HP District Mgr. in 1977 and transferred to Detroit, Michigan. From there he was transferred to Chicago to become Regional Mgr. In 1984 Bob left HP and joined Puritan-Bennett Medical. PB sent him to the Stanford Executive Program in 1986. He spent 3 amazing months in Palo Alto where he formed friendships that endured for over 30 years. His class met every 2 years in many parts of the world to share memories and make new ones.
PB sent Bob to the UK for 2 years to head up medical in Europe. We could have lived in France or Belgium but Bob wanted to live in an English-speaking country. We loved our time living right on the Thames in Marlow. Bob walked to town to play snooker.
After PB was acquired, Bob left and went to work for a German company, Dragerwerks (also medical devices). Up until his retirement, Bob was President of North American Drager.
Since retirement Bob has enjoyed working with the church, golfing and spending precious time with family. Bob was a happy man! He will be greatly missed but he would not want us to grieve. He would want his family and friends to savor the amazing gift of life and live it fully.
A memorial mass will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3740 Holtzclaw Road, Cumming, Georgia 30041.
