Richard Schwaemmle

Richard ("Dick") Schwaemmle, 88, of Cumming, GA passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2022.

Born on June 2, 1934 in East Orange, New Jersey, Dick was the son of Fredrick ("Fritz") and Florence Schwaemmle. In 1950 he started dating Evelyn Ward while they were attending College Park High School. They were married in December 1955 and were married for over 66 years. Dick attended Georgia Tech and after graduation he worked for Southern Bell and then for Sun Valley Inc. He retired in 1989.

After retirement, Dick and Evelyn travelled around the country in their RV. They loved the National Parks, and shrimping and fishing in Florida. They took many trips to Europe. Dick became an avid golf and tennis player. He loved pulling friends and family behind the boat either tubing or skiing.

Dick was very active in Cumming First United Methodist Church where he helped with their Habitat House, the Student Ministries Building and was an honorary technical support member of the Prayer Ministry Team.

Dick is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his brother Fred (Ellen) Schwaemmle of Dawsonville; two children, John (Pam) Schwaemmle of Cumming, GA and Kathryn (Robert) Epley of Salem, SC; six grandchildren, Brooke Hopkins (Bryson), Preston Epley (Erin), John Schwaemmle, Erin Kelly (Kyle), Sarah Seper (Ryan), and Spencer Epley (Brittany); four great-grandchildren, Hudson and Carter Hopkins and Wren and Lawson Kelly; and a large family of nephews, nieces, and friends who he and Evelyn called family.

A memorial service will be held at Cumming First United Methodist Church on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 11:00. Visitation will be prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Member Crisis Fund or Gentle Souls at CFUMC, P.O. Box 606, Cumming, GA 30028.
