Richard grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut during the Great Depression. He was one of 10 children, born to John and Madeline Nixon. He was a great athlete and captain of his swim team. Richard served bravely as a pilot in WWII, 2nd Lieutenant in Air Transport Command, and flew to over 50 foreign countries. After the war, he was a master carpenter for 51 years, building two of his own homes and a sailboat. Richard was married for 61 years to Norma Nixon. They resided in South Florida, the mountains of Asheville, and spent their last 25 years here on Lake Lanier in Georgia. Richard was a loving father to three daughters, Linda Longenbach, Claire Barany, and Paulette Peterson. He was a grandfather of four and great-grandfather of six. Richard enjoyed old movies and music, good seafood, bird watching, and telling jokes. He prayed religiously for everyone he met. He was incredibly strong, very thoughtful, and always positive and uplifting. A funeral mass will be celebrated in his honor on Tuesday, March 10th at 10am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Good Shepherd Catholic Church retired priests fund in Mr. Nixon's Honor.
