Cumming, Georgia
Phillip B. Harcourt, 73, was called home to God on Friday, July 3, 2020. While his passing was sudden, he was playing tennis and living life to the fullest at the end.
Born on April 6, 1947 in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Roy Maurice Harcourt and Elaine Bobo Harcourt. Phil enjoyed growing up on the family farm in Austell, where he attended South Cobb High School, before continuing on to West Georgia College. After serving in the Marine Reserves, he joined Southern Bell's engineering organization (which later became BellSouth), where he worked until he retired.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Anne Walters Harcourt; daughter Stephanie (John) Cahill of Cumming; son Russell (Angela) Harcourt of Athens; and brother David (Cynthia) Harcourt of Alabama. Phil also leaves behind 6 beloved grandchildren: Jack, Ethan, Lauren, and Kate Cahill; Grant and Grayson Harcourt.
Phil was a very adventurous soul, with a laid back approach to life. He had a passion for aviation, which included aerobatics, and building his own airplane in the basement. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, skeet shooting, golf, tennis, snow skiing, and water skiing, as well as the time spent with family and friends doing these things. He greatly valued his many friendships.
Phil was a devoted and proud father, and would do anything for his children. He took great joy in his 6 grandchildren and loved nothing more than being their Papa. He was a familiar sight at their activities, often wearing his signature hat. Phil also enjoyed traveling the world with his "Queen Anne," as well as taking Sunday rides together with the top down. He enjoyed a close relationship with his brother and was a loving and supportive son to his late parents. He was the ultimate family man and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at McDonald and Son Funeral Home on Friday, July 10th, 2020, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 2:00pm following the visitation. Flowers are appreciated, or please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Due to COVID-19, the funeral home will be taking steps to promote social distancing during the visitation and service. Visitors are encouraged to bring masks to use as needed. The family understands that some people may not be comfortable with attending at this time.
