Philip Garland Martin Sr.

Philip G. Martin, Sr., age 74 passed away June 7, 2023. Born in Hayesville, NC to parents Evelyn Shelton Martin and the late Bill Garland Martin.

After high school Phil was called to duty and served as a combat soldier in the US Army in Vietnam and Cambodia from 1969-1971. When he was discharged he decided to go to Southern Tech, Marietta and received majors in Construction and Civil Engineering in 3 1/2 years, on the dean's list and working a full time job to support himself. With his degrees Phil spent 40 years in the commercial construction business then worked at MTR Fleet Services before coming ill.

Surviving is his wife, Pam Martin, sons Jason T. Martin (Christy Martin), Philip G. Martin, Jr. (Ashley Martin), step son Daniel McDowell, grandchildren, Jessica Porter (Deven Porter), Hudson Martin, Nathan Martin and great grandson Isaac Porter.

A huge hole is left in the family's hearts as he was all about his family and nothing mattered more. A great friend to many he always greeted them with a smile on his face. He touched many with his kindness and thoughtfulness for others. Phil will truly be missed.

A celebration of life will be held at McDonald & Son Funeral Home and Crematory, Cumming, GA on July 9, 2023. Visitation will be from 1-3pm, service from 3-4pm.
