Philip Francis Germinario

WWII Veteran, Philip F. Germinario of Cumming, Ga, former resident of Babylon Long Island , passed away at home on March 30, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Leonarda and brother and sister Nicholas and Angelina. Born in Weehawken, N.J. he attended schools in Brooklyn, NY. Philip had been employed at the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. where he was General Store Manager and also at Opti-Ray a division of Goodys. An active member of the American Legion, he recently received recognition of his 60 years of service from National Headquarters. Philip was Past commander of Post 94 in Babylon , NY and of Post 307 in Cumming. He was also a member of Post 9143 Veteran of Foreign Wars. His service in WWII was in the Pacific theater, the Philippines and Korea. He was a private pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol involved in cadet training and also on committees for Boy Scout Troop #94 in Babylon. Philip served as an usher in St. Joseph s Catholic Church for 40 years and was a member of the Men s Club and Prime Timers at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Bernice (ne Bennison)and his children Mark and wife Annette of Denver, Co.; Michael and wife Lauren of Ashburn, Va . and daughter Mary Beth Brady and husband John of Cumming. and Grandchildren Lauren Germinario-Thompson, Elise Couch, Monica Germinario , Jessica Brady, Will, Tim and Catherine Germinario. A celebration of life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday April 5, 2010 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Fr Frank Richardson officiating and burial in Georgia National Cemetery with Military Honors. Family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Funeral Home. McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to USO.org or Good Shepherd Parish Life Center in Cumming.
