Cumming, Georgia

Patricia Oakes Ayscue Curenton left our world and entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at her home at Belmont Village Assisted Living Community in Johns Creek, Georgia. She was 81 years old. Pat was born November 19, 1933 at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. to Chalmer Orlandis Oakes and Melba Hill Oakes. Soon after birth she moved to Richmond, Virginia where she lived through high school. Pat graduated from Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, Virginia with a degree in Social Work. After college Pat held various positions with the United Methodist Church and in child welfare services in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. Pat was loved by everyone who knew her and was especially known for her compassionate and caring personality. She spent many years volunteering in her children's schools, her church, and in the community. Pat was an avid lover of nature. She especially enjoyed birds and butterflies, flowers and plants, the mountains and the ocean. In later years she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and shared her passion and love of nature with each one of them. The grandchildren loved her for her kindness and patience. After she raised her children, Pat returned to school and became an IRS Enrolled Agent. She completed her professional career as a tax agent with H&R Block in Columbus, Georgia. Pat was a long time member of St. Peters United Methodist Church in Columbus and more recently a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church in Johns Creek. After residing in North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Canada, Pennsylvania, and Ireland, Pat returned with her family to Columbus, Georgia where she resided for 35 years. In 2009 Pat moved to Johns Creek, Georgia to be close to her son and his family. Pat is predeceased by her mother and father, Melba and Chalmer, her stepfather, Sen. G. Edmond Massie, Jr., and her husband, C. Hubert Curenton. Pat is survived by her children, Peggy (Ayscue) Bloodworth and husband Charles of Annandale, NJ, and William Tollie Ayscue and wife, Jenny, of Cumming, GA, grandchildren, Charlie, Steven, and Kathryn Bloodworth, and Annie, Claire, and Will Ayscue, step daughters and their families, Sue Petty (Frank), Kay Mason (Leonard), and Sharon Cook (Marc) of Columbus, Georgia, her brother, Bob Oakes and wife, Catherine of Richmond, Virginia, and her step sister, Marylou Cumby of Richmond, Virginia. For the five years that Pat resided at Belmont Village Assisted Living a community of compassionate and loving caregivers surrounded her. The family will be forever thankful to Jan, Leslie, David and the entire loving staff at Belmont that not only cared for Pat but also loved and nurtured her family as well. The family also extends enormous thanks and appreciation for the compassionate care delivered by Agape Hospice, and Pats care team, Julie, Terry, Monica, Kristen, and the awesome bedside nurses that helped Pat transition to eternal life. A celebration of Pat's life will be held on October 3. Memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the Missions Ministry at Johns Creek Baptist Church.
