1937-2024
Otis (Mack) Tomblin, age 86, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on May 25, 2024.
Mack was born on December 17, 1937 in Columbus, Georgia to parents Otis A. and Lois Tomblin. Mack grew up with two younger brothers, Neal Tomblin and Steve Tomblin. He met his life-long sweetheart, Mary Sterling at church and they married in 1959. They were lovingly married for 65 years and have three daughters.
As a young man Mack proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years. When he left the service he took a job repairing business machines, which over the years turned into various computer and IT jobs. He retired in 2006.
Mack had a life-long passion for flying. He earned his private pilot's license in the 1970s and enjoyed occasionally taking his young daughters for rides up in the clouds. His wife Mary admired and was proud of his fearless pursuit of his piloting hobby, but admits to being maybe less than thrilled, and more than a little nervous, when he bought a plane in their retirement. But he happily enjoyed many years up in his plane, flying for the pure joy of it. Once he was no longer able to fly he took up the ham radio and spent many evenings on his new hobby.
Mack is survived by his wife Mary Sterling Tomblin, his daughter Kelly Hollis and son-in-law Brian Hollis, his daughter Kimberly Tomblin, his daughter Karen Winters and son-in-law Joseph Winters, his grandchildren Austin Hollis, Shay Hollis, Katie Winters, Emma Winters, Michael Winters, their spouses and partners, and four great-grandchildren.
Mack was a supportive, kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all
whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2024 at 2:00 at McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until the time of service.
Interment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, Georgia, at a later date.
