Nancy Jane Dickerson

Nancy Jane Dickerson, age 77, passed away, Friday, May 22, 2015 after a 9 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. James Hoover, and Mrs. Mary Benetta Horton Hoover, of Irwinton, Georgia, and sister, Rosemary Hoover, also of Irwinton. Nancy, is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Dickerson, of Roswell, Georgia, her brother Joe Hoover, of Irwinton, Georgia and her brother William Hoover, of Dawsonville, Georgia. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with great-nieces and nephews. Ms. Dickerson, was born in Irwinton, Georgia November 16, 1937. She graduated from Wilkinson County High School, and attended Young Harris College for 2 years, followed by additional training for nursing. She married John Dickerson, and they had one daughter Mary Jane Dickerson. Nancy and Mary Jane eventually moved to Roswell, Georgia where Nancy was employed by the Great Oaks Nursing Home for over 30 years. Nancy, all through her illness, kept an amazing attitude, and was always joking with her doctors and nurses, and she never complained about the side effects of the chemo treatments. Fortunately, many prayers were answered, in that she also had little pain that needed more than a Tylenol. Even in her last week before passing, she was singing a little song, "The Battle of New Orleans", a number 1 hit song in 1959, that her brother William sings occasionally and she continued to have a great sense of humor. Nancy was a member of the Atlanta Street Baptist Church, located at 340 Atlanta St, Roswell, Georgia, where a small service will be held in her honor, Sunday, May 31, 2015 immediately following the regular 11am Sunday service. A private burial will occur at the Hoover family plot, in the Irwinton City Cemetery, where Nancy's mother and father were laid to rest, as well as many other family members.
