Meikang Zhang was born in Shanghai, China on October 7, 1935, and entered eternal rest in Atlanta, USA on March 19, 2023.

She was born in an ordinary family in China. As a child she was frail and sickly, and was well cared for and loved by her family. She grew up loving everyone around her, and was loved by all who has come to know her.

Meikang went to college at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou in 1955, graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1960, and then stayed there to teach. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1974 and transferred to the then newly established Department of Materials, promoted to Associate Professor in 1984, and retired in 1990.

As one of the first generation of intellectuals educated in China in the 1950s, Meikang experienced and witnessed all the political movements and turmoil over the years: Anti-Rightist Movement, the Great Leap Forward, Socialist Education Movement, Cultural Revolution, May 7th Cadre School, etc. However, with "conscience" and "love" as her principle of conduct, she maintained reason and patience in a turbulent, fanatical, and cruel environment, and never participated in or committed wrongdoing. Looking back, this showed incredible character and spirit.

Meikang founded the West Lake Institute of Biomaterials in 1990 and has obtained four invention patents. In 1992, she was awarded as an advanced scientific and technological worker by Hangzhou West Lake Science and Technology Bureau, and a conference was held to commend her. In 1994, she founded West Lake Biomaterials Company. She had a difficult development journey from scratch, from small to large, and finally succeeded.

Meikang was baptized in Clemson, USA in 1994 and accepted Lord Jesus as her personal Savior. In 2010, she came to the States to settle down and reunite with her children and grandchildren. Due to the decline of brain function, mobility began to be inconvenient. But she overcame various difficulties, worked hard to learn English, pottery, and painting, and actively participated in church activities. People could often see her walking to church with a shoulder bag and a cane, and admired her fighting spirit.

Meikang is survived by her sons Yang Cao and Fengli Cao, daughters-in-law Meixia Lu and Tracy Zhixin Zhu, grandsons Jeff Ziqiao Cao and Michael Enqi Cao, and granddaughter Michelle Anqi Cao.
