Martha Fowler

Martha “Mamie” Dean Otwell Fowler of Cumming, GA, passed peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan Chamblee Otwell and Mildred Barrett Otwell, her husband Walter Eugene Fowler, Sr., and her brother, Robert Otwell. Martha was born on December 27, 1928, in Cumming, GA, and graduated from Cumming High School.

Martha spent over three decades with Sawnee EMC, retiring as Accounts Receivable Supervisor. Martha loved gardening and always had beautiful violets in her breakfast room, a vegetable garden, and flowering shrubs and annuals. She was the first woman to serve on the City of Cumming Planning and Zoning Board. She enjoyed sewing, solving word puzzles, and cooking for her loved ones. She sewed hundreds of baby blankets that she shared with family, friends, and local charities. She was a founding member of Cumming Baptist Church where she worked as treasurer and Wednesday night supper cook and organizer. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She is survived by her son Walter Eugene Fowler, Jr. (Nancy), daughter Laura Fowler (Tom), grandchildren Angela Masand (Prakash), Matt Parks (Joy), Virginia Small, Colin Thornton (Raleigh), great-grandchildren Jack and Madelyn, sister-in-law Imogene Otwell, nephew Brent Otwell (Melissa), great niece and nephew Katherine and RC, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumming Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Cumming, GA, 30040.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 18th, 2025 at 1:00pm in the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held the same day starting at 12noon. Interment will follow in the Cumming City Cemetery.
