Marlene Stuckey Moyer

–

Cumming, Georgia

Marlene Stuckey Moyer, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away on February 20, 2025, at the age of 87. Marlene was born on July 7, 1937 in Abbeville, Georgia. She grew up in Brunswick where her father owned the local grocery store, and her mother was a doting wife and mother of eight children.

She graduated from Glynn Academy in 1955. Marlene briefly worked for AT&T before pursuing her dream of going to beauty school in Atlanta at the Artistic Institute of Cosmetology.

She married the love of her life, Duane Edson Moyer, on December 28, 1958. She wore the heirloom wedding dress that her mother handmade, just as each of her sister’s had worn on their wedding days.

She took pride in supporting her children by attending every football, cheerleading, band and swim meet. She was a Girl Scout leader and a tireless volunteer as a band parent. In her later years, she attended all the grandchildren’s activities. She was our constant cheerleader, and we were so lucky to have a mother that loved us so selflessly.

Marlene was kind, thoughtful, and always knew the right thing to say. She never missed a special date and was one of Hallmark’s best customers.

She loved being a member of First Redeemer Church in Cumming for 19 years. She was active in the Friends in Faith Class and enjoyed serving on the church’s Hospitality Committee for many years.

Marlene was a good friend and neighbor and had a passion for helping people. She loved crafts, gardening, and bridge. She joined her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, in 1958, and was very active serving as President and Secretary. Marlene could take any flowers and build it into a spectacular arrangement. Her goal was always to make things beautiful.

It is hard to say goodbye to her, and the thought of not ever hearing her voice again or eating her world-famous brownies brings us great sadness; but we know she is up in heaven joining all of her family, and they are all back together again.

Marlene was preceded in death by her father, William F Stuckey, Sr & Carrie Mae Ryals Stuckey, her sisters Mary Morgan (Lem), Caroline Bailey (Duke), Joanne Carson (Charles), and brothers Frank (Ruby), Lamar (Roberta), Norman (Barbara) and Tommy. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Duane Edson Moyer, her three children and their families: Kimberly & Bernard Patrick, Nicholas, Trevor & Ethan, Michelle & Antonio Novo, Tony, Zachary & Brianna, William Moyer & Lauren Baessler, Madison & Sophia Baessler and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on March 1, 2025, at 2:00PM at McDonald & Son Funeral Home at 150 Sawnee Dr, Cumming GA 30040. Family will receive friends from 12:00PM until the time of the service.
