Marjorie Louise (Stombaugh) Harper

–

Cumming, Georgia

Marjorie Louise Harper of Cumming, GA entered into eternal rest on January 14, 2023, surrounded by her family that she loved so much. She was born on February 13, 1942, in Pennsylvania. Margie was the 12th of 13 children born to Albert Stombaugh and Agnes Helsel Stombaugh. Her 80 years were enriched by her 62-year marriage to her husband, Leland James Harper. Together they had 3 children, Mike (married to Leslie Swiger Harper), Ron (married to Cheryl Lynne Harper), and Tammy (married to Christopher Salet Moore). She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Sharon, Andy, Courtney, Josh, Caitlyn, and Matthew and 2 great grandchildren, Cameron and Malakai (with two more on the way).

Margie and Jim were founding members of First Redeemer Church in Cumming, GA where Margie enjoyed serving in visitor greeting, senior's ministry, and food service. She was also a supporter of Whispering Hope Resource and Pregnancy ministry. Prior to First Redeemer Church/Rehoboth Baptist Church, Jim and Margie met and grew up together in The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Several of her brothers served as pastors or foreign missionaries for the C&MA.

The foundation of Margie's service was her deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ above all. This love was evident through her countless hours of Bible study and her demonstration of unfailing faith in the power of Christ. Margie loved spending time with her family and was affectionately known as 'Bubba', the name given to her by her oldest grandchild who could not yet pronounce 'grandma'. She had a passion for cooking and hospitality for anyone she could serve. Margie was a true servant.

Margie grew up a coal miner's daughter in Pennsylvania before a job change moved the family to Nyack, New York, where she met Jim in their church youth group. They married shortly after Margie's graduation. She worked as a bank teller before Jim, Margie, and their small family moved to Georgia in 1968. After raising her 3 children to school age, Margie began working in the Dekalb County School System as a part-time lunchroom cashier at Dresden Elementary School, where her children attended. She enjoyed being in food service and began working on her Dietician's Associates degree. Upon completion of her degree, Margie quickly moved into management, ultimately becoming a Dekalb County Schools supervising dietician, responsible for several campuses. She retired after nearly 30 years of work.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 20th, 2023, from 5:00pm-7:00pm and on Saturday, January 21st, 2023, from 2:00pm - 3:00pm.
