Marie Furbish Clark - Obituary

Marie Furbish Clark passed peacefully into her heavenly home on March 4, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving family. A woman of unwavering faith, deep love, and remarkable resilience, Marie leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her family, friends, and Catholic faith. Her life was a testament to strength, and the unshakeable love she had for those around her.

Marie was born in Atlanta on September 5, 1929, to Walter and Elizabeth Furbish. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Barron Chauncey Clark, her sister Edna Conarro, and her brothers Walter Jr. ("Bub") and James ("Jim") Furbish. Marie grew up in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta and attended Sacred Heart High School before graduating from Dunbarton College in Washington, DC. After graduation she married her college sweetheart, Chauncey, on December 27, 1951. Together, they shared a beautiful 69 years of marriage, during which they were blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by her children: Beth Gordon (grandchildren Joy, Jennifer, April, Lindsay); Kathy Davis (grandchildren Amy, Christie, Andrew); Jan (Hugh) Pope (grandchildren Travis and Robyn); and Stephen (Joyce) Clark (grandchild Chase), as well as 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Marie’s life took her from Georgia, then Tennessee before residing in Birmingham, AL for 30 years. She was a homemaker while raising her children and later took great pride in her nearly 40-year career as an enrolled agent with H&R Block. In 2014, Marie and Chauncey relocated to Cumming, GA, to be closer to family.

Marie will be remembered for many things, including her Catholic faith, love for her family, her independence as well as her quick wit and stubborn streak that she wore proudly. She enjoyed many years of bowling, playing golf, bridge and gardening. A true sports enthusiast, she cheered for many teams, but above all, she was a devoted supporter of the Atlanta Braves.

While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life of a woman whose love, faith, and unwavering commitment to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, made whole again in the embrace of God’s eternal love, reunited with those who preceded her.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 on Thursday, March 13th at St Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Jude's Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank the Villas at Canterbury and Hospice caregivers for their care and dedication.
