Margery, affectionately known as "Nana" to her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren was born at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta and passed from this life at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, GA. Margery was confirmed at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Most recently, she was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta.
Margery was a multi-talented lady who spent her working life as an accountant and writer. She had twelve books published and was the author of several blogs dealing with health-related issues. Her coloring book for children, called Harmony's House, was very popular in teaching children and their parents about healthy living. Her Cherokee Rose Publishing company helped other writers with their writing and publishing process. During her 40 year accounting career, she mentored many other accountants. Her many bookkeeping and accounting clients were small business whom she helped to thrive with her intimate accounting knowledge. She was an avid health researcher and writer, actively maintaining four websites, the most recent of which included hundreds of studies and articles on COVID. She was always learning, even to the last weeks of her life.
During her short battle with pancreatic cancer, the grace and love with which she comported herself were noticed and appreciated by many family and friends who visited from the time of her diagnosis in May 2022. During one conversation, as she talked about the cancer, she said that she had made the choice between Better or Bitter, and she chose Better. Even during the most painful periods, which fortunately were few, she was always thinking about her caregivers. Most mornings, a fried egg and a cup of hot coffee was her go-to meal even if it meant only a sip and a few bites. She would say to us that she was "sorry" and didn't want to be a burden. Her son, Richard, established a rule that the word "sorry" had to be replaced with "I love you", which went over well with everyone.
She is survived by her children, Richard Childs and Allison Hickman along with grandchildren Andrew Hickman, Holly Hickman, Paul Childs, Mary Beth Childs and William Childs. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Hunter and Barrett Hickman.
