Margaret Souter

We celebrate the life of Margaret Drago Souter who passed on January 23, 2025 in Cumming, GA. Margaret survived her husband, Hoyle, having been married 57 years. She is survived by her daughter, Lee (Byron) of Marietta, GA and son, Russell (Dawn) of Cumming, GA and her sister, Miriam Duke. Margaret was the proud grandmother of Hannah, Emme and Olivia and aunt to Amanda, Brooks and Tommy. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Quin.

Margaret earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University. She spent her entire career as a successful legal mediator with the Justice Center of Atlanta and was committed to supporting conflict resolution and fairness amongst her clients. Margaret was a champion of the power of mediation and how disputes can be resolved outside of the courtroom.

Her passions included gardening, rescuing animals, cooking, decorating her home, and enjoying watching and feeding the deer and birds in her yard. Margaret collected figurines of butterflies, hummingbirds, elephants, dragonflies, and wolves. Because of her fascination for forensics, she enjoyed watching crime and legal shows. Margaret found much joy from spending time and celebrating holidays with her beautiful granddaughters and family. And, she will be remembered by her family for her fondness for strawberries, pickles, tomatoes and chocolate.

While her surviving family members will miss her tremendously, they are blessed she is now reunited with her husband, Hoyle and the many fur babies she had throughout her life.
