Madeleine Raymonde Verdon of Waleska, Georgia, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on August 15, 2017 at Chestnut Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cumming GA. She will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend to many.
Born August 10, 1933 in Montreal, Canada, to Paul-Emile and Raymonde (Lemeiux) Hayeur, Madeleine was the eldest child with four sisters and two brothers who all grew up in a classical music loving home. Madeleine and her siblings received a traditional Catholic boarding school education emphasizing music and art, which no doubt imprinted in Madeleine much of her intellectuality, creativity and resolve. As a young adult in her early 20's, Madeleine was working as a commercial artist in Montreal when a friend introduced her to future husband, George Verdon. They married the next year and moved to Quebec City where their son, Carl, was born in 1956. Soon after, the family moved to Los Angeles where George attended a chiropractic college. They fell in love with Southern California and made it their new home. Madeleine was comfortable being a homemaker and perfected her cooking skills specializing in French cuisine. She was often occupied caring for her flower garden, and took time to draw and paint portraits for friends and create garden-inspired paintings that still hang in her house today. Visitors attest they were frequently greeted by the sound of classical music when visiting Madeleine. In 1985, the couple escaped L.A.'s congestion and moved northward from the San Fernando Valley to a newly constructed house in Camarillo, CA which, being just a few miles from the Pacific coast, was known for its ideal temperate climate. There, they found they could grow the most magnificent flowers including year-round roses which absolutely delighted Madeleine and inspired her to paint more. By now, Madeleine was ready to take a step outside of her homemaker role. George, in semi-retirement, had already started a small nutritional supplement business (Promess USA, Inc.). Madeleine had the idea of adding a line of skin care and beauty products. After formally joining the company, she formulated an anti-aging skin cream which eventually brought to the company a loyal customer base and dependable revenue. In 1989, she became its president and oversaw its successful operation for the next 10 years. By this time, after 43 years in California, Madeleine and George decided it was time to be closer to the grandchildren. In 1999, they relocated to the lakeside community of Lake Arrowhead in Waleska, Georgia--having found a house for a song and a half, and just a 1-hour drive from their son's home. Once more, George's hard labor transformed a neglected property to a beautifully landscaped home. Madeleine was again preparing her favorite dishes, and started to draw and paint again while listening to her favorite classical music. Close friends and other observers have shared their admiration for Madeleine and George's obvious and inseparable love for each other. We joyfully celebrate this deep love and will never forget their shared commitment during Madeleine's time on earth-- knowing her devotion to her husband and son will eternally be celebrated in heaven.
Madeleine is survived by her husband, George O. Verdon; son, Carl P. Verdon; daughter-in-law, Sylvie L. Verdon; grandsons, Julien R., Michel J., Daniel L.; and sisters (Raymonde, Pauline, Louise and Helene) and brothers (Jean-Pierre and Robert).
