M. Fred Marx III

Morris Frederick Marx III, age 73, of Suwanee, GA passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Fred was born October 27, 1936 in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from the University of Maryland, School of Engineering in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He retired as a Member of the Technical Staff, Bell Labs, after forty years service with Western Electric/AT&T/Bell Labs-Lucent Technologies. His area of expertise was in plastics; particularly PVC. In addition to being fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren, Fred s other interests included playing golf, enjoying his second home in Laguna Beach, Florida with family and friends and in being the all around go-to-guy for anything that needed fixing. Fred was married for 49 years to Joyce Arlene Uphoff Marx and in addition to his wife, is survived by a brother, Edward F. Marx of Upperco, MD; his three children, Karen Althafer and husband Charles of Sugar Hill, GA, Susan Arrington and husband Tim of Johns Creek, GA, Robert Marx and wife Siobhan of Suwanee GA; along with his eight grandchildren, Tyler Althafer, Emily Althafer, Sarah Arrington, Sam Arrington, Becca Arrington, Ryan Marx, Sean Marx and Erin Marx. Fred s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Christ the King Lutheran Church (Peachtree Pkwy at Spalding Drive) on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 11am. A luncheon/reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5575 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross, GA 30092 or Children s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, 1687 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta GA 30329. Fred was a loving, caring and generous man who will be sorely missed by his family and many, many friends.
