Lyette Marie Morris

–

Marietta, Georgia

Lyette Marie (Yates) Morris, of Marietta, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the age of 72. Born March 28, 1952, in Warwick, Rhode Island, Lyette was the daughter of Noella (Allard) Salas and Levi Yates. Her father passed away unexpectedly before her birth, an event that would eventually usher in the late Edmund J. Salas, whom she called Dad.

Lyette was preceded in death by her beloved husband David. She is survived and loved by her mother, Noella, siblings: Donald Yates (Cindy), Lori Justus (Jimmy), Robin Stover (Mark), Vincent Salas (Marcy), Randy Salas (Laura), Tamra Williams (Greg), and Danielle Nehring (Dack), multiple nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, and cousins, including two godsons, Randy Salas and Gabriel Justus.

Lyette graduated from South Dade High School in Homestead, Florida, in 1969, pursuing a career as an administrative assistant. She also spent time as a dog obedience trainer and worked the production line for Freudenberg-NOK, an automotive parts manufacturer, in Cleveland, Ga.

In 1986, Lyette married David V. Morris, and they resided in the North Georgia mountains for many years. Lyette and David were both "night owls," often staying up into the wee hours listening to the sounds of nature, loving on their four-legged friends, watching TV, playing video games, and watching thunderstorms roll in from their front porch. The Front Porch became a finishing school of sorts for life lessons and for talking about the finer things, both mundane and profound, without fear of judgment. Lyette created a peaceful respite in her home that was a haven for visiting family members and a private escape for her and David to enjoy.

Lyette and David had no children of their own but shared a close bond with their nieces, Kali and Destiny, and nephew Gabriel who have many cherished memories of visits to Helen, Ga. and Unicoi State Park, Hallmark Christmas movie marathons, trips to the Amish bakery and overnights at their home that always felt like a celebration. Lyette and David so embraced their roles as aunt and uncle that they happily went by their nicknames, AL (Aunt Lyette) and UD (Uncle David) in their everyday lives.

Lyette was sensitive, curious, a good listener, a deep thinker, a nurturer, an animal lover, a child of God. She was generous, honest, genuine, and playful - someone who was fiercely loyal to her loved ones through words, gifts and prayers, and whose door and arms were always open (or just a phone call away). For what she lacked in stature, she made up for in the biggest hugs. She preferred one-on-one relationships over large groups and shined as the compassionate and fun-loving person that she was. Lyette also gave freely and unconditionally to the many cats, dogs, and birds who crossed her path in life; and her love of animals was only exceeded by her love for her husband, David, who was her comfort, partner, and friend.

In her final days, Lyette’s bedside was surrounded by loved ones and loved caregivers, whose voices could be heard sharing treasured memories as she slept.

The family would like to thank those medical staff and caregivers who assisted in making Lyette feel known and comforted and whose dedication to her made all the difference in the world. Lyette's love and life will be forever remembered by those she encountered. To honor Lyette’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, and her ashes will be spread in nature among her “feathered friends” at a time and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lyette’s memory to the Wildlife Center of North Georgia, Inc., www.wcnga.org
