Lucy Jane Rockett, 8.5 months, of Suwanee, GA passed away peacefully on May 12 after a lifelong battle with a complex congenital heart defect. She was born with Down syndrome, but her extra chromosome only brought extra joy to her family! She was a perfect gift to her family and all who knew her, and she was well loved! Her impact was greater than many achieve in a lifetime, and her family takes great comfort knowing that she's dancing with Jesus.
Although her life was far too short, Lucy didn't lack for adventure. She enjoyed two trips to Disney World where she met Minnie Mouse and all of her favorite princesses. She loved to journey to the zoo and was frequently found spending time with her family at a Mexican restaurant or Sunday brunch. Lucy loved to lay on her stomach and play with her toys. She was captivated by her older sister and loved sweet snuggles with her mommy and daddy.
Lucy showed us what it means to persevere, to fight, to display courage, and, most importantly, to live. Despite overwhelming odds, she thrived through pregnancy and came into the world bursting with energy. At 3 months old, she survived open heart surgery, but loved her stay in the hospital with the nurses and doctors so much that she decided to visit them at least once a month for the rest of her life! Lucy knew who she was and what she wanted, and she always kept her family on their toes. She gave her all and fought her entire life, leaving a legacy of determination, hope, joy, and purpose.
"Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous." Psalm 139:14
She is survived by her parents, Mark & Jenny Rockett of Suwanee, and her sister, Ellie. She is also survived by her grandparents, Alan & LuAnn Rockett of Atlanta, Chuck and Kathi Whitt of Augusta, GA, and Carol Bayer of New Haven, MO; as well as numerous other family members who loved her well and cherished her gentle spirit! The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life service at North Point Community Church (4350 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, Georgia, 30022) on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucy's honor to the Cardiac Services at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, or North Point Community Church.
