Ida Louise Castleberry, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Louise was born on February 19, 1934, the daughter of the late William Linton Gravitt and Exie Barker Gravitt. She was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County and a member of Cumming Baptist Church.
She graduated from Cumming High School in 1951, where she enjoyed her high school years playing basketball.
On May 7, 1955, she married Marcus Castleberry, thus beginning a forty-nine-year union. They were blessed with four daughters, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She began her work career at Gulf Oil in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was a key punch operator, and later worked for NCR. Her last stop would be the City of Cumming, where she retired after forty-one years of service.
She was an avid sports fan of the Atlanta Braves and played both basketball and softball well into her senior years. She coached many teams in both sports, served on the Park and Recreation Board for the City of Cumming, and mentored students in the Forsyth County School System. When she wasn’t involved in sports, she was traveling.
Above all, Louise loved her family. She was deeply loved by so many; her absence will leave a huge space for all that knew her. A life so beautifully lived can never be lost, and she leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, elegance, resilience, and love that will carry on through all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcus J. Castleberry; daughter, Vanessa Gail Castleberry; grandson, Vincent Lee Hardy; brothers and sisters-in-law: Louis Gravitt, Lyman Gravitt, William Linton Gravitt, Jr. (Margaret), Charles Gravitt (Charlotte), Albron Gravitt (Vonceil); and sisters and brothers-in-law: Faustine Byers (Dean), Berline Bennett (Gaines), Montene Richards (Eugene), Shirley Holtzclaw (Marcus), and Joelene Walls (J.W.).
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Pam Zuber (Tim), Tammy Teems, and Patti Jo Holder (Steve); grandchildren: Kerri Aune, Candice Wheeler, Lauren Zuber, Brianna Zuber (Dan Twyman), Adam Teems (Mimi), Ethan Teems (Rachel), Emma Teems, Katie Hardy, Libby Holder (Palmer Cornwell), and Zeb Holder; great-grandchildren: Cannon Hunter, Carter Aune, Cooper Aune, Chezleigh Rakestraw, Lilah Payne, and Simon Teems; and a host of nieces and nephews.
We would like to say a special thank you to all the staff and caregivers at Magnolia Senior Living who provided mom so much love and care during her time there.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 10:00am to 8:00pm, and June 18, 2026 from 10:00 until time of service.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 18th, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home, with the Reverend B.V. Franklin and Dexter Gravitt officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
