We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Lori Jeane Harris, who departed this earth on March 11, 2026. Born on May 28, 1964, in College Park, Georgia, to Jack and Barbara Hiers, she was the youngest of three sisters. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose nurturing spirit enriched the lives of many.
Lori's journey in life was marked by resilience and determination. She embarked on a fulfilling career as a nurse that spanned 41 years. Her journey began in 1985 when she graduated from the Crawford Long Hospital Registered Nurse Program. She later fulfilled a lifelong goal in 2018 by earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Grand Canyon University at the age of 54. Lori served in various hospitals in the Atlanta area, including South Fulton, Georgia Baptist, Northside, Northside Forsyth, and Emory Johns Creek. At the time of her passing, she was employed by Alliant Health Solutions of Sandy Springs. She specialized in Women’s Services, working as a Labor and Delivery Nurse, Clinical Supervisor, Lactation Consultant, and Neonatal Intensive Care nurse. Her spiritual gift was encouraging mothers-to-be, new mothers, and helping them care for their babies. As Maya Angelou once said, "They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Lori's warmth, dedication, and care are etched in the hearts of the many lives she touched.
Lori's life outside her professional career was equally vibrant and fulfilling. She was happily married to her husband, Stephen Harris, for 25 years and had a son and a daughter, Matthew James Mashburn (deceased) and Mallory Rae Mashburn of Newnan, GA. She also had the joy of being a grandmother to her adopted grandbabies, Jack and Evie Harris. Lori loved adventure and the great outdoors. After Stephen's retirement in 2007, they traveled the country in their motorhome, visiting 44 states in the USA. She enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and took pleasure in the tranquility of the mountains and the beach. She was a member of Browns Bridge Church, Cumming, GA, where she served in several areas, including Guest Services.
Lori leaves behind her husband, Stephen Harris, her daughter, Mallory Rae Mashburn, her adopted grandbabies, Jack and Evie Harris, stepchildren Rebecca Castillo and Stephen A. Harris, her sisters, Brenda Youngblood (husband Paul) and Terry Boatright (husband Gary), and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Barbara Hiers, and her son, Matthew James Mashburn.
In the words of Albert Schweitzer, "The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others." Lori embodied this sentiment throughout her life, and her legacy will continue to inspire all those who knew her.
We invite you to leave memories and upload photos of Lori on the memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a testament to the love and joy she brought to our lives.
