Linda Summers 78, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 14th, 2022.
Linda joined her son, Bobby Summers, and her parents, Richard and Martha Martin on July 14. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob Summers, her daughter and son in law, Barbara and Steve Wheeler, her daughter in law, Kitty Summers and her grandchildren Lexi Summers, Chloe Wheeler, Stone Wheeler and Chad Huskins.
Linda lived a wonderful life with her husband. They were fortunate to travel the world over, from Europe to Asia to Australia and all places in-between. In 1987, she and Bob settled in Atlanta, GA. Linda was a great cook, and had some staple recipes that have been passed down to family members over the years. Anytime you would ask her and Bob what they wanted for dinner, Bob would answer - whatever you want, how about spaghetti or chili? In 1975, the family moved to Oahu, Hawaii, and thus began her love of the sun and beach! In retirement, Linda and Bob spent several winters in their Ft Myers home, time in Hilton Head Island, and enjoyed many cruises with a group of lifelong friends.
Linda was raised by modest means in the rolling hills of Bellefonte, PA. She graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1962 and married her high school sweetheart later that summer. They built a wonderful life together. Linda worked as a Human Resources executive until her retirement in the early 2000's. She was an only child, with an older half sister who was tragically taken in a car accident when Linda was just a child. She loved her children and their chosen spouses, but her greatest joy came from her grandchildren! She spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren. Whether it was watching them while the parents got a break, attending their sporting events or shopping, she was always available to spend time with them...including her grand dog, Georgia! She especially loved teaching and playing the game of golf with her grandson, Stone. She even let him drive the golf cart at the early age of 10 (Shhh).
The first word that comes to mind when you think of Linda is strong! She was such a strong woman! She was dealt a lot in her life, and never complained. She was also very compassionate and loving. She cherished her friendships. We will miss her very much! She was one of a kind.
A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at 3:00pm in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
