Lillian Agnew

–

Dahlonega, Georgia

Our hearts filled with gratitude and sorrow, we say farewell to Lillian (Lilly) Craven Agnew, treasured wife, mother, sister, and friend. For those fortunate enough to cross hiking paths with Lilly, they instantly formed a friendship and experienced her as a generous, compassionate woman. Lillian helped the misguided campers of the world and inspired us to dance a little better and hike more often.

Her extraordinary, vibrant life began on March 16, 1944, in Elberton, GA, and Lillian’s journey included an unwavering dedication to family, health, the environment, and global policies.

Lillian retired from Fiat Allis after a successful career, but her restless spirit rejected the concept of quiet retirement. She hiked, camped, and excelled as a dancer and Master Gardener.

Diverse interests from reading and bicycling to tennis and running filled her days. Lillian remained an active member of the National Parks Conservation Association and Lakeshore Squares dance. With boundless energy and passion, she earned tennis awards and the admiration of everyone that knew her. Lillian embodied the quote by Cesare Pavese: “We do not remember days, we remember moments.” So should we.

Lillian moved from Elberton to New Jersey and finally settled in Dahlonega, Georgia, where she lived her adventurous life. A loving wife to Arthur Agnew, a nurturing mother to Merilyn (Chris) Scherer, Daniel (Carmen) Petrucelli, and stepmother to Timothy Agnew, Scott (Tina) Agnew, and Patrick (Karen) Agnew, she also relished her ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren equally.

As a sister, Lillian cherished her siblings, Lorhetta (Lory) Healy, John Howard Beyer, and Jeffry F. Beyer. Her fierce love and support remain embedded in the hearts of all who knew her. Lillian’s parents, Kenneth and Marjorie Beyer, preceded her in death.

As we reflect on Lillian’s impactful life, the words of Kahlil Gibran offer solace: “When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

Lillian delighted us, and her vibrant energy remains in our hearts. “Always remember that the trail is the thing. Travel too fast, and you miss all that you’re traveling for.”
— Louis L’Amour
