Laurence Lane

Laurence John “Larry” Lane of Cumming GA. passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026 at his home with his loving wife beside him. He was 86 years old.

Born on March 11, 1940 in Syracuse, New York. Larry lived a full life centered around family, hard work, and the people he loved. He graduated from Manhattan University in 1963 and went on to enjoy a long career with AT&T, where he worked until his retirement. Later in life, Larry served as a bailiff at the Forsyth County Courthouse.

In his younger years, Larry was an accomplished golfer and greatly enjoyed his time on the course.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lane and Mary (Sullivan) Lane; his beloved wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Merante) Lane; and his son, Robert Francis Lane.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon (Votaw) Lane and his daughters, Theresa (Lane) Miller and her husband, John J. Miller, Jr., and Lisa (Lane) Sweat and her partner, Johnathan M. Savatgy; and his daughter-in-law, Brandi (Moore) Lane.

Larry was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Jonathan Miller and wife, Ashley; Melanie (Miller) Dozier and husband, Nathan; Jacob Matthew Lane; Anna Kathleen (Lane) Pryor and her wife, Paige; Megan Lane Sweat; and Mary Grace Sweat. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren.

His extended family includes his stepdaughter, Kelly Eastes and her husband, Wayne, and their children, Chloe, Amy and Bradly.

Larry will be remembered for the life he built, the family he loved, and the many memories he leaves behind. His legacy will continue through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be a mass at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1 pm, where family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Larry’s life.

A reception will follow after services at the home of Kelly and Wayne Eastes at 1900 Jett Ridge Rd. Cumming, GA.
