It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the loving and reliable Laura Kate Jamerson, fondly known as Johnnie by friends and family. Laura was born on March 21, 1942, in Canton, Georgia, to Frank and Irene Johnston. She passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024.
Laura was a resilient and spirited woman who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She grew up in Atlanta, graduating from Murphy High School in 1960, and later embarked on a fulfilling career in retail with Sears. After many years serving her community, she retired to enjoy her hobbies of gardening and birdwatching in Cumming, Georgia, following years of residency in Rex, Georgia. Laura was a source of steadfast support and love for her family, a beacon of strength that was admired by all who knew her. In all things, Laura was true to her nickname, Johnnie; she was a lively spirit, full of love and laughter.
Laura was fortunate to share 64 years of marriage with her loving husband, Melvyn Jamerson. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with precious memories. She is survived by her husband, Melvyn, and their son, Michael. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Johnston, and her son, Mark.
A private burial will be held at Sawnee View Gardens at a later date. As we mourn the loss of our beloved Laura, we also celebrate her life and the love she spread to all of us. We invite you to share your memories of Laura and upload photos of her on the memorial page. In honoring her memory, let us remember the love, resilience, and spirit that defined her life.
