FLOOD, JUNE ROWLAND June Rowland Flood, age 78, passed away on September 21, 2015. She was born on October 31, 1936, the daughter of the late Henry and Sue Rowland. June was born in Langley, SC and moved to Atlanta shortly thereafter with her parents and sister, Betty Rowland (Voyles). She attended E. Rivers Elementary School and graduated from Northside High School in 1954. After high school, June attended Auburn University where she was an active member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1955, June met Paul Flood in Atlanta through a mutual friend and started dating thereafter. After her time in Auburn, June accepted a position in 1956 as an executive assistant in the chief executive suite for the Coca-Cola Company while Paul attended school and graduated from Georgia Tech. Paul and June married on March 15, 1958. Later that year, June and Paul moved to Burlington, NC for Paul's work and then to Fort Monmouth, NJ for Paul's military obligations. Paul and June were excited to relocate back home to Atlanta in 1960, where she was again offered her role at Coca-Cola as an executive assistant for an executive vice president. During this time, June courageously fought and survived lung cancer. After a few various moves, they settled in Sandy Springs in 1967. June and Paul had 3 sons, Pat Flood, Hank Flood (born premature and lived three days) and Jim Flood. June lovingly cared for her active family. Beginning in 1983, June served several terms as President and later Chairman of the Board of ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association), presiding in these positions for approximately 10 years. During this time, ALTA developed into one of the largest tennis organizations in the country. Under her leadership, ALTA membership grew from 35,000 to over 70,000 members. June was instrumental in the development of several professional tennis tournaments in the Greater Atlanta area including those hosted by the Atlanta Athletic Club. Additionally, she was active with various teams and organizations at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, including serving as the Chairwoman of the Tennis Committee. June was co-owner of Hildebrand Galleries located in Sandy Springs, and ultimately, Miami Circle in Buckhead. She thoroughly enjoyed her antique trips to the United Kingdom, where she showcased her love and expertise of Old English antiques. June's passions were her family, sports (in particular Georgia Tech football and Braves baseball), cooking and gardening. She was talented in all of these facets of her life. June's family benefited from her gourmet cooking at every holiday and meal. June's friends will remember her for her sassy and fierce spirit, her honesty and her big laugh. Above all, June loved her family. She was affectionately known as "Tailsie," a loving nickname given to her at an early age by her father and adopted by Paul. It was rare for Tailsie to miss any sporting or other event for her grandchildren, Hank Flood and Kathryn Flood. Paul and June spent more than 40 years boating and enjoying activities on Lake Lanier. June is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul Flood (Cumming GA); son, Pat Flood (Cumming GA); daughter-in-law, Sara Flood; and June's beloved grandchildren, Hank and Kathryn. She is also survived by her nephew, Bob Voyles; his wife, Anne Voyles; and grandnephews, Justin and Kevin Voyles. June was preceded in death by her sons, Jim Flood and Hank Flood; sister, Betty Voyles; brother-in-law, Robert Voyles; and niece, Vicki Voyles. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015, at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040, 770-886-9899, with a reception immediately following.
