Joseph John Carcione, lovingly known as "Joe," passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Cumming, Georgia, at the age of 92.
Born on October 29, 1933, in New York City, NY, Joe lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a cook, where he discovered a lifelong love of preparing meals that brought people together. In recognition of his honorable service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, honors that reflected his dedication, character, and commitment to serving his country.
One of life's greatest blessings came when Joe met the love of his life, Fran, through her brother, Joe, who was one of his close friends. Their chance introduction blossomed into a beautiful marriage that spanned 58 years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, generosity, and unconditional love, creating a foundation that would shape generations of their family.
Joe’s career reflected his willingness to work hard and serve others. Throughout his life, he installed commercial fire sprinkler systems across New York City, worked as a limousine chauffeur, drove a school bus for children with disabilities, and later served as a maintenance manager at a healthcare facility. No matter what the role, he earned the respect of those around him through his dependability, humility, and quiet strength.
Outside of work, Joe possessed an extraordinary ability to build and repair almost anything. A gifted carpenter, plumber, and handyman, he approached every project with confidence, creativity, and determination. Long before instructional videos or internet tutorials existed, Joe relied on experience, ingenuity, and perseverance to solve problems. Whether building a screened-in porch, maintaining a beautiful property, or tackling countless home improvement projects, he took pride in creating things built to last. Even more meaningful than the finished projects was the opportunity to work alongside his family, passing down practical skills, patience, and confidence one project at a time.
In quieter moments, Joe found joy in reading. He was an avid fan of detective novels and books about history, and his curiosity never faded. He appreciated a well-told story, whether he discovered it in the pages of a book or shared one from his own life.
Those who knew Joe will remember him most for the person he was. He had an extraordinary gift for storytelling, captivating family and friends with tales that were as entertaining as they were memorable. His quick wit and infectious sense of humor brought smiles wherever he went. Gentle, welcoming, and generous, Joe never met a stranger. He had a remarkable way of making people feel at ease, and his genuine interest in others often turned acquaintances into lifelong friends. His daughters’ friends especially adored him, drawn to his warmth, humor, and kindness. To know Joe was to love him.
Family was the center of Joe’s world, and some of his happiest moments were the simplest ones like sharing a meal, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time together. Cooking was one of the many ways he expressed his love. His homemade soups, Italian pasta and sauce, and barbecue meals became beloved family favorites, but no tradition was more cherished than gathering every Christmas Eve to make homemade pizza. Year after year, Joe brought everyone together in the kitchen, where rolling out the dough, adding favorite toppings, and sharing laughter became as important as enjoying the meal itself. What began as a cherished family tradition has become a legacy, continuing today as children, grandchildren, and future generations gather each Christmas Eve to carry on the tradition he loved. For Joe, food was never just a meal; it was an invitation to connect, celebrate, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Fran Carcione; his loving daughters and sons-in law, Susan and Casey Brown, Dina and Alexander Kozak, and Joanne and Bryon Evje; his cherished grandchildren, Gillian Brown (26), Tyler Evje (24), Jeremy Brown (23), Griffin Evje (21), Alexander Kozak (20), Gavin Kozak (18), Julia Evje (17), and Grant Kozak (15); along with many other beloved family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Joe’s life was a testament to the enduring values of hard work, kindness, humility, generosity, and unwavering love for family. He taught by example that the greatest accomplishments are measured not by what we build, but by the love we share, the lives we touch, and the memories we create together.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in every family meal, every story shared, every helping hand offered, and every lesson passed from one generation to the next. He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
The visitation will take place at the McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia, 30040, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm EDT, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm EDT at the same location. A family only graveside service will take place at Sawnee View Gardens at a later time.
