Cleveland, Georgia
Jonathan Barclay Hunt, a dauntless adventurer, constant friend, and engineer of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company has died on April 16, 2012 at a Mountian View, California hospital due to complications of an unidentified, rare type of sarcoma cancer. Jon outstayed initial prognosis and celebrated his 30th birthday on January 11 of this year.
A Georgia native, Jon grew up accompanying his father Jeff on the farm and mother Brenda on science expeditions. When not building tree houses with his brother Brandon and convincing his sister Jessica that she was adopted, Jon occupied himself winning Nintendos and blue ribbons for elementary school art and science projects, and beating high schoolers at county-wide spelling bees. He enjoyed picking blueberries with Nanny Jessie Mae and checking fences with Papa Homer Colston, counting cows with Grandparents Phillip and Eloise Hunt, and planning He-Man themed parties with friends and family.
Jon met his wife, Gina Turner, in Mexico just after his 2000 graduation from White County High School and hers from a northern California school. Jon attended North Georgia College and State University on a military scholarship before delivering his Fort Eustis advanced training graduation speech and serving as an aviation drivetrain mechanic in the 148th Air Ambulance at Fort Hood, Texas. There, he served as a helicopter technician and began restoring his first motorcycle- an interest that continued as he traveled to California and earned a Master of Science Engineering degree at San Jose State University. He graduated magna cum laude after studying global economies on academic scholarship in Bejing, China and Taipei, Taiwan.
Jon proposed to his wife on Disneyland's Splash Mountian seven years after their first date. They wed at St. Igatius Cathedral of San Francisco as Jon began work as a systems and product engineer for Lockheed Martin, assigned to missle defense and a special programs unit. An avid cyclist, Jon enjoyed biking Tahoe's north shore and reservoirs near their Sunnyvale home. Jon and Gina welcomed their first son, Nicholas Brody, in 2009, and expect their second son, Jonathan Noah, in June 2012.
Boundlessly kind and courageous, Jon's uncommon ardor in life and compassion for all is a prize held tightly by those he leaves behind- Jon was a remarkable father, husband, son, brother, mentor, and a friend to everyone who met his million dollar smile.
He is survived by his wife Gina Turner Hunt and his son Nicholas of Sunnyvale, California; mother Brenda Colston Hunt; father Jeff Hunt; stepmother Holly Hunt; mother's fiance Ron Jackson; brother Brandon Hunt & sister-in-law Crystal Hunt each of Cleveland, Georgia. as well as sister Jessica Hunt of Atlanta, Georgia; step-sister Katie Ragan of Macon, Georgia; Grandparents Homer and Jessie Mae Colston of Demorest, Georgia; granfather Phillip Hunt of Cleveland, Georgia; step-granmother Sherry Matthews of Atlanta, Georgia; nephew Jeffery Colston Hunt of Cleveland, Georgia; and his wife's family Sam, Barbara & Jacqqueline Turner of Burlingame, California. He is preceded in death by grandmother Eloise Mundy Hunt.
