Johnnie Loy Jones

Johnnie Loy Jones passed away on Wednesday February 26, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on March 11, 1935, in Gwinnett County, GA to the late Zed and Viola Jones and preceded in death by James Jones, brother, Dorothy Jones, sister, and Roy Tyler Jones (twin brother).

Survived by nephews, Glen Jones (Gloria), Andrew Davis, great nephew Drew Davis & niece, Julie Davis McCarty, and great niece Ella McCarty. Also survived by nephew in law, Jeff Dittrich and great niece Bailey Ann Dittrich.

He was married to Betty J. Lunsford (deceased)

Johnnie served in the United State Army from 1957 to 1961 as an electrician on missile launch systems. After his tour of service in the Army he worked at The Lanier Company, then later he went into business as a builder and built houses in the Atlanta area.

He and his wife, Betty, moved to Dahlonega where Johnnie continued to build houses in the Dahlonega area.

He enjoyed working with wood and opened a cabinet shop and built cabinets for several years.

Outside of his professional life, Johnnie was involved in his community. He was a member of The Dahlonega Baptist Church where he built the stairs for the stage of the then new church on Hawkins Street.

Johnnie was elected to the Dahlonega City Council and became Mayor in the City of Dahlonega.

Later he and Betty purchased a house in Cumming, GA where Johnnie resided until his death.

A celebration of Johnnie Loy Jones' life will be held on March 7, 2025, with visitation at 1 pm and funeral service by Rev. Bill Hutcheson at 2:00 PM at Dahlonega Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of Johnnie's life.

Johnnie Loy Jones will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Johnnie.
