John Sherman "Buddy" Whedbee, Sr.

John Sherman Buddy Whedbee, Sr., 74 of Cumming, GA died on May 19, 2010 at Embracing Hospice House. Born in Darlington, SC, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Whedbee. Mr. Whedbee retired from the US Army as a Colonel after 26 years of distinguished service including two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Among his service awards are the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He received both his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Alabama. A man of many interests Buddy, enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, landscaping, camping, sailing and genealogy. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nora Whedbee of Cumming, GA; sister, Sue Goldsmith; daughters, Amy (Jim) Tankersley of Charleston, SC and Lisa (Mark) Derenthal of Alpharetta, GA; sons, John S. Jack (Yukari) Whedbee, Jr. of Cumming, GA and Bill (Crystal) Whedbee of Suwanee, GA; grandchildren, Soon-Mi, Jacob, Yuki, Joshua and Young-Min Whedbee and Simon, Griffin and Julian Whedbee. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Michael J.
