John Lamar Upchurch

John Lamar Upchurch, 44, of Cumming GA, died on July 13, 2012. John was born June 27, 1968 in Demorest, GA and grew up in Athens, GA where he was on his high school tennis team and a ranked state player. He attended and graduated from the University of Georgia. John loved history, hiking, sports, and any outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed camping with his family, friends and neighbors. John was an investment advisor. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jack and Lill Courson of Clarkesville, GA. John is survived by his wife, Carey Rich Upchurch of Cumming, GA, his much loved children Courson Earl Upchurch and Caitlin Elizabeth Upchurch; his mother, Tina (Tom) Evans; his aunt Beth (Kent) Kraps; his stepsister Beth (Tom) Tedrow of Snellville, GA; his stepbrothers Tom Jr. (Valerie) Evans of Elberton, GA; Bill (Holly) Evans of Atlanta, GA; his parents-in-law Harry and Freda Rich of St. Louis, MO, sisters-in-law Lisa (Mark) Haden of Ridgefield, CT; Ashley (Doug)Rodwick of San Francisco, CA; nieces Jessie, Kate, and Libby Evans, and Hannah Haden, and nephews Thomas Evans, Blake Haden, and Evan Tedrow. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 11:00 A.M. at The First Presbyterian Church in Clarkesville, GA where John was a 5th generation member. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the John Upchurch Memorial Fund set up for his children, Courson and Caitlin, at Community Bank and Trust.
