June 7, 1947 – August 15, 2024
Born June 7, 1947, John G. Parrish, a beloved husband, father, colleague, and friend, passed away on August 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He faced his battle with Alzheimer's with unmatched determination and an indomitable spirit, never losing his zest for life or humor. After serving proudly in Vietnam in the Marines, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Magna Cum Laude and began his long-time and successful career in sales. John was known for his spunky personality and his infectious enthusiasm for life. He had an extraordinary ability to light up any room with his vibrant energy and warm presence. His laughter was a cherished sound, and his stories, whether about something crazy he’d done on a sales call years before or a story about one of his children, always captivated those around him. John's dedication to others was evident in every facet of his life. He was a steadfast friend, a loyal colleague, and an ardent advocate for the people he cared about. His love for his family was profound—he was the bedrock of his household, always ready with a listening ear, sage advice, or a witty come-back. John was an avid reader, forever with a book in hand. His obsession with literature was evident in his extensive collection of thousands of books spanning all genres. His closet, too, was a testament to his passion for running, filled with shoes in every color imaginable. He owned many bikes through the years but never just one – more like 10+ at a time! John is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly Parrish; his son, Chris Parrish and his wife Melissa; his daughters, Katie Kearns and Anna Travis and her husband Andrew; grandsons Sam, Seth, and James; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and his fur babies Bumper, Harper and Kevin. He is reunited with his late son, John Parrish, Jr. and parents Lavina and Halden Parrish. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of knowing him. In honor of John’s enduring legacy, we invite donations to Emory Integrated Memory Care (IMC). https://together.emory.edu/give/checkout?appeal=W0SON or 404.712.GIVE (4483).
