John Means

–

Cumming, Georgia

John "Tom" Thomas Means II, age 86, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, following complications from a heart attack.

Tom was born May 1, 1937, to Walter and Mildred Means. He grew up in Ben Hill and Sylvan Hills, Georgia and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Management in 1961. While at Georgia Tech, he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. On June 23, 1962, Tom married Laura (Susie) Gage and then went on to raise their sons, John and Bob in Roswell, Georgia. Tom was employed with Lockheed and then Lockheed-Martin until his retirement in 1995 at the age of 58.

Upon his retirement, Tom made the most of his time by pursuing the things that he enjoyed. One of Tom's many passions was working on cars, so he restored a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air to its original condition. Tom and Susie also loved traveling to other countries and taking trips in their motorhome to Florida and as far away as Alaska. He went fishing almost every spring and fall with his friends that were a part of a group they called the Cold Creek Waders. Tom's other interests were boating, turkey hunting, and golf. Over the last few years, he spent his late afternoons outside watching the deer and squirrels with his Doberman Pincher, Lulu, and then more recently with their new puppy, Delta.

Tom was an active member of Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell, Georgia since 1977. Tom served many years with the Friday Fixers and he and his wife Susie always looked forward to attending the early service and then going to brunch with their fellow early service friends.

Tom is survived by his wife, Susie, his two sons, John and Bob (Loren), his four grandchildren, Kirstine (David), Thomas, Caroline, and Will, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jaci Camp.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Cross of Life Lutheran Church located at 1000 Hembree Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076. A lunch reception will immediately follow the service at the church. All are welcome to attend. The family requests no flowers be given, but in lieu of flowers request that contributions be given in memory of Tom Means to the Georgia Doberman Rescue (georgiadobermanrescue.com).
