John P. McDonnell

–

Cumming, Georgia

John P. McDonnell of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, was an Air Force Veteran, an entrepreneur, a husband, father, and grandfather who left a legacy of hard work, patriotism, and conservative values. He died peacefully, surrounded by relatives, on February 7, 2018 in Gainesville, Georgia where he was visiting family. He was 87. A native of the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and the son of John and Helen (McAllister) McDonnell, John graduated from North Catholic High School. His siblings, now all deceased, included Daniel and James McDonnell, Helen Hulme Steinbronn, Mary Schell, and Esther Kirn. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Later, he chose sales as his profession, eventually starting his own business, McDonnell Sales and Service. He married the former Lisa Ifert on February 4, 1959, and together they had three children and six grandchildren. Pop-Pop was beloved by all and could always be counted on for a funny Port Richmond story, a tale of adventure with his life-long friends, and being the grandfather who was still a kid at heart. John McDonnell is survived by his wife, Lisa, of 59 years; three grown children, John, Chris, and Lisa; a son-in-law, William; two daughters-in-law, Karen and Janet; and six grandchildren, Bree, Kiera, Margaret, Joseph, Cyndy, and Ryan. Pop-Pop will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9am to 10am at the Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale, PA where funeral services will follow at 10am. Interment will be at the White Marsh Memorial Park in Ambler, PA.
