With a heavy heart, we announce the departure of our beloved John "Big Jack" Marquis, who passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024. Born in Providence, RI on October 16, 1944, John was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love in the lives of countless individuals. Known for his captivating laughter, bold voice, and deep singing tones, John's presence was a comfort, his personality a joy, and his faith a testament of his love for God.
John's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to family and community. He was a proud and accomplished salesman, having retired from Lowe's after a fruitful career. Despite his professional achievements, John's proudest titles were those of "Best Dad" and "Best Papaw". His devotion to his children, grandchildren, and family was the cornerstone of his existence. In the words of the Bible, John truly embodied the spirit of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
A man of many passions, John loved sports, dining with friends, and engaging in hearty conversations. He was a dedicated coach to his children and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. His love for gospel music and America were unwavering, and his bold faith resonated in his occasional sermons. John's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, faith, and service, woven together by his unyielding love for his family and his Lord.
John is survived by his children, Jacqueline (Tim) Gaskins, and John (Ashley) Marquis; his grandchildren, Hannah, Kaylind, Abby, Sophie, Levi, Anna, Alivia and Jackson; and his siblings, Barbara Aronhalt, and Scott Marquis. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda Marquis, his parents John Marquis Sr. and Dorothy Marquis, and his brother Stewart Marquis. John's interment will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 10:00 am EDT at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia, 30114.
We invite you to leave your precious memories of John and upload photos to the memorial page as we celebrate and remember a life beautifully lived. John's legacy is a testament to a life filled with love, joy, and faith, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
